TURNING AN IDEA INTO A RECORD
You can hear the groove. You know the emotional arc. You’ve got a vision for what the record is supposed to be.
But after months of living with the material, it gets hard to hear it clearly anymore. The feeling that made the songs exciting starts to blur under the weight of too many decisions.
That’s usually where I come in.
WORKING TOGETHER
Every record arrives at a different stage.
Sometimes the songs are still evolving and we’re shaping arrangements and capturing performances together from the beginning. Other times the recordings exist but something isn’t translating yet. In those cases, there’s usually some targeted work to do before mixing even enters the picture. That might mean re-amping guitars, adding parts, or simplifying things that have gotten crowded.
Sometimes the music is already there and it just needs a mix that lets it fully come through.
Wherever you are, the goal is the same. Most of the time, you’re closer to finished than it feels. You just need someone to figure out what will actually get it there and see it through.
RECORDS WITH HUMAN ENERGY
Some records just feel alive. You can feel that the musicians’ instincts are leading the way. The groove pulls you in and makes you move even when you’re sitting down. The sounds have personality baked in, not added at the end. You can feel the room.
That’s the kind of record I’m most drawn to. Music where the performances move you and the tones have real character. Where something unexpected is happening that makes the record feel like it could only have come from that particular group of people.
If that feels close to what you’re making, we’re probably on the same page.
THE COLLABORATION
Making a record takes time. You spend a lot of it with these songs. Exploring ideas, making decisions, trying to hold onto what made them exciting in the first place.
A good collaboration helps keep that clear.
It starts with a conversation about what the record is supposed to feel like. From there, it’s about figuring out the moves that actually get it across the finish line. Not picking apart every detail, but focusing on what will make things click.
Every project is different, and the process adjusts to what the music needs.
When it’s working, something shifts. The record starts feeling like itself.
That’s the moment we’re working toward.
THE STUDIO
The studio is built around the kind of records I love making. Band-driven music with real human feel.
High ceilings, an open room where everyone can set up and play together, real gear with some history behind it, and enough instruments within reach that when a song calls for something unexpected, you can just go grab it.
The kind of place where the energy in the room actually makes it into the recording.
SELECTED WORK
Here are a few records I’ve had the pleasure of working on.
